Day 176. 189 days and $186 left to go.

LOST WEEK!!

LOST WEEK!!

It’s Day Six – the final day of LOST Week is here. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I heard “previously on LOST” for the last time this evening.  Whew, still hasn’t hit me yet.  Don’t worry…no spoilers ahead – I’m still trying to take in the two and a half hours 🙂

It’s Sawyer’s last day on the job, so he’s already in vacation mode.

My final LOST Week look begins here…

Day 176 - Before (from the back)

Day 176 - Before (from the back)

Yeah, this piece is rather ridiculous.  So how exactly does this tie in to LOST??

Smoke Monster!

Smoke Monster!

BAM!  The Smoke Monster.  Yep, this vest with the reptiles and animals on the back of it had one in particular that looked like the infamous Smoke Monster.  I’m going to take this vest apart and add the patch to a tank for my Series Finale ensemble.

First, it’s time for breakdown!

The vest innards!

The vest innards!

After ripping apart the vest, I was left with the patches from the back.  The one I’m using is the top right…

Seam ripped the patches off the back!

Seam ripped the patches off the back!

Now sewing this patch onto a white tank just wasn’t going to be enough for me.  I needed to do a little somethin’ somethin’.  I took a cue from Day 43 and got out the iron-on letters!!

Placing my seven letters down!

Placing my seven letters down!

I grabbed the letters to form two words and placed them on the back of the shirt.  Got out the iron and began to press the letters down.

Post my ironing, I took the patch and pinned it to the front of the tank (which, PS, I took from my stash of more than I need Hanes tanks in my top drawer) and got to sewing.

Sewing on my patch!

Sewing on my patch!

My Smoke Monster tank is all ready for some epic television watching.

The Series Finale (and yes, that is the Donald in the top corner, as yes, I Tivoed Celebrity Apprentice as well :)

OMG!! "THE END" (and yes, that is the Donald in the top corner - totally tivoed Celebrity Apprentice as well 🙂

Day 176 - After

Day 176 - After

Because the pic of Sawyer above wasn’t going to be enough for the last day…

Call me freckles anytime Sawyer!

Call me freckles anytime Sawyer!

One more time, right?

I still don’t really have words about the episode…beautiful, sad, romantic, settling, unsettling, elegant… There will be more as the discussions/chit-chat/rewatching/reading come up beginning tomorrow.  Some may have liked and some may have not, but at the end of the day, we all GOT LOST 🙂

Time to GET LOST!

Time to GET LOST!

“I’ll see you in another life brotha.”

Six days down.  And then there were none…single tear.

Since I can’t toss the three leftover patches into my shoulder pad container I’m givin’ em away!  I stitched each one onto a tote bag and they’re up for grabs!

Totes!!

Totes!!

Leave a comment below (include your email!) and I’ll be picking three winners (via random.org) this Friday, 5/28.  Lizards, scorpions and caterpillars oh my!

Day 175. 190 days and $187 left to go.

LOST WEEK!!

LOST WEEK!!

It’s Day Five of LOST Week and just one more to go.  OMG, OMG…less than 24 hours till the finale!!

And in his second to last outfit, Sawyer decided on this for today.

Sawyer in a black button down

Sawyer in a black button down

It’s black.  It’s slimming.  I totally understand.  Black is usually my goto, however I don’t usually unbutton that far.  Me on the other hand, this is what was up my sleeve for today.

Day 175 - Before

Day 175 - Before

Now six years of LOST…we’ve been spending lots of time on this island and that’s where this outfit comes into play.  It’s sunny, there’s a beach, you get your fill of Vitamin D…amongst other things.  But for the most part, you’re on what looks exactly like Oahu, HI and that is in part because the show is shot there.

A shirt full of palm trees, gorgeous tropical flowers, sun and an ocean?  This shirt that looks like my dream vacation while at the same time looks just like what we’ve spent six years watching.  If only a VW van, Dharma Initiative jumpsuits…

Jumpsuits!!

Jumpsuits!!

…a DS ring, holes in the ground, hydrogen bombs, and a hatch were also found on this shirt, then this would really be made just for us LOSTies.  Still trying to grasp the fact that we’re a day away.  Y’all feeling the craziness too?

Now I wasn’t going to leave the tropical shirt as it was.  If I were, I’d be channeling this guy more than LOST.

Magnum PI!!

Magnum PI!!

Nope, not today friends!

My first step in the tweaking process was taking off the sleeves.

Later sleeves!

Later sleeves!

Post sleeve trimming, I turned the shirt upside down and cut off the collar.  I pinned those raw edges down and sewed a hem at the new bottom of my shirt.  I’m going the strapless route now friends!  It’s warm today, so why not?

As this is going to be my new tube-ish top of sorts, I’m thinking about making the top of the piece work with a drawstring – the drawstring is going to be crafted from the excess material sewn into a mini sash to keep the top from collapsing.

Drawstrings!!

Drawstrings!!

Thanks to bamboo sticks that I’ve held onto for smores evenings, the excess fabric sash used as the drawstring was set through the seam that was already in place.

Almost done!!

Almost done!!

Now, this shirt is pretty much ready to wear.  I must say, thank goodness for the drawstring or this shirt would have been falling down like no other.

Day 175 - After

Day 175 - After

I gathered it around my boobs and there was no place my new shirt was going to be going.

I mean, it does make me crave a little vaca, as well as blended umbrella drinks and some Kalua pig I’ll be honest.

Five days down.  And then there was one…

Day 171. 194 days and $191 left to go.

LOST WEEK!!

LOST WEEK!!

Another theme week begins!!  I know you’ve all been brimming with anticipation and it has arrived!!

A final ode to LOST begins today (as the second to last episode aired) and will be going straight through to the finale on Sunday.  Let me just say, I was wavering for a while back in season two/three but stuck with it thanks to my TiVo and there’s just too much time that has been invested not to finish watching.  (At least this will take just six days instead of six seasons).  No worries if you’re not a Lostie, you’ll still appreciate the theme week if for no other reason than…

Sawyer (Josh Holloway) in a white T

Sawyer in a white T

…HIM!!  Josh Holloway who plays Sawyer is Dreamy McDreamerson and he’ll make a daily appearance wearing a different outfit – maybe it’ll even get you revved up to begin going through the 121 total episodes.  Wow, putting that in writing made me choke on my Twizzler.

OK, this week is an ode to the show and an ode to the hours upon hours devoted to this magical island of deception including but not limited to yelling at the TV (most definitely when the episode got cut off early because of Time Warner and most probably when Ben shoots his daughter Alex), tears from “The Constant” episode, and all the flashing (as in forward/backward/sideways).

We begin here…

Day 171 - Before

Day 171 - Before

This had elements of John Locke aka “I heart cargos”…

Locke loves his cargos!

Locke (Terry O'Quinn) loves his cargos!

and badass Sayid…

Sayid (Naveen Andrews) loves his cargo shirts!

Sayid (Naveen Andrews) loves his cargo shirts!

…so I had to go with this cargo-ish jacket I found for a dollar that’s actually meant for fishermen!  There were lots of random attachments that I had to take off because I honestly had no idea what they were supposed to be used for.  That just didn’t cut it for me.

This is also used to hold pencils.

This is also used to hold pencils, clearly.

The above is questionable as well as the below.

This furry patch either holds hooks or is a place to clip my earrings.

After the excess pieces were removed, I took in the jacket from the back…

Tightening up that jacket!

Tightening up that jacket!

…and took in the arms to make it a bit more fitted.  I rolled up the sleeves and now have a totally LOST-worthy piece 🙂

Day 171 - After

Day 171 - After

I even tried climbing through the non-sonar fence.

Not the sonar fence...

Just a chain link one here.

That’s dedication my friends.  And then there were five…

Day 169. 196 days and $193 left to go.

I’m in a total summer vibe – really craving some tropical action and unfortunately I’m not headed to LAX and there isn’t a plane waiting to whisk me off to Kona.  So, the closest I was going to get was through my ensemble.

Day 169 - Before

Day 169 - Before

Shocking pink hibiscus flowers on a fabulously vintage Hawaiian dress!!  The dress was so overwhelmingly electric pink that a little adjustment was necessary.  It was like watching 3D in this dress and 3D gives me headaches.

My main step today was going from dress to top.

Trimming!!

Trimming!!

Out came the scissors and off came a foot of fine floral fabric. (What’s up, alliteration, say hey to your mother for me.)  And after a quick mend to the raw edge, the piece was finished!  I unbuttoned the top two buttons and my shirt said, “Aloha!”

Day 169 - After

Day 169 - After

Not only am I craving some luau festivities…

Party time!!

Party time!!

But, I’m also craving one of these as well to wear around my neck…

Lei Me!

Lei Me!

…and one of these to hold in my hand.

Yummy to look at and yummy to sip!

Yummy to look at and yummy to sip!

At least I can make the third one happen from the comforts of my home 🙂

Day 168. 197 days and $194 left to go.

It’s been a slightly hectic weekend so far, so I wanted to pick something more calming to wear today.  Opted to go against the 60s mod über bright colored dress (which I will absolutely use very soon) and go with a light palette of blues along with some flowers.

Day 168 - Before

Day 168 - Before

It reminded me of Monet’s Iris and his lovely color schemes…

Claude Monet's Nympheas - 1914-17

Claude Monet's Nympheas - 1914-17

Today’s piece was reminiscent, just without the lily pads.

The button clasp had come undone, so my first job on this puppy was to reattach it.  I took a needle and some thread and began to stitch the end of the clasp back into the side seam to hide my handiwork.

Clasp Fixer-Upper

Clasp Fixer-Upper

My next adjustment was taking the dress in – I brought it in on both sides from the arms down to the bottom of the dress about two inches.  It made it more fitted, but without taking away the flowyness.

To completely finish the piece, I used some of my excess “Purple Rain silk” from Day 164, and cut a strip from the leftover.

New sash here I come!

New sash here I come!

A sash to match perfectly with the purples in the dress was on the horizon.  The end product?

Day 168 - After

Day 168 - After

A lovely, more fitted and relaxed dress for my Saturday 🙂  As I was clearly in art mode and unfortunately didn’t make it to the LACMA today (even though I was driving my face off all around its’ Mid-City LA vicinity) I went to BeFunky.com for a little artistic assistance.

Cartoon Marisa!

Cartoon Marisa!

Kind of obsessed with my cartoonized me 🙂  I reminds me of the last time I went the cartoon route when I “Simpsonized” myself a few years back when the movie was coming out.

Simpsonized Marisa!

Simpsonized Marisa!

I mean, my lips only reach that shade of red after a few glasses of vino and my hair…it’s just so thick!!  Those Simpsons animators really know how to make a girl happy.

Day 167. 198 days and $195 left to go.

OK, this before pic is rather genius…

Day 167 - Before

Day 167 - Before

It’s like I’m in a big clown dress, just sans a rainbow wig and red nose.  There is this weird ruffle collar with some crazy long sash to tie at the neck which was just not happening.  Plus with the polka-dotted fabric, it was all very, very wrong.

First thing’s first – I had to get rid of the ruffles as well as that sash around the neck.  I used my seam rippers to take it all out.

The leftovers!!

The leftovers!!

Once that was done, I cut the sleeves in half and shortened up the length.

Later skirt!

Later skirt!

Then a little bit of seam ripping down the front of the dress…

V Neckin'

V Neckin'

…brought a little V-neck action to fruition!  After those three tweaks, I put the dress on and used the sash that was around the neck as a belt.

Day 167 - After

Day 167 - After

This one turned out fabulous!!  Loved the length and the new dropped neckline.  I paired a vintage gold tassel necklace from eBay that fit perfectly right in the center of the V as well as my brown sandals.  Just the thing to meet up with girlfriends for happy hour.

I went with the Delirium…

Beer!!

Beer Me!!

Nothing beats a delish Belgium brew and it was the drink that we started and ended the night with.  Today Happy Hour carried us all the way to last call…

Robot time!

Robot time!

…where I feel the need to dance the robot.  As some old school 80s tunes jammed in the background like, The Mary Jane Girls’ “In My House”, I just had to bring the moves.  If you were there, you would have been dancing alongside me.

TGIF!  Happy weekend friends :)

Day 165. 200 days and $197 left to go.

Before we begin, I must say how slightly horrified I am of my before pic.  I usually check each one out before moving on to other before pics, but somehow I glided over this one.  I’m pointing at my neck to show how tight it is, but the rest of it is one hot mess 🙂

Day 165 - Before

Day 165 - Before

The big ish was the tight neck.  There was no way that I’d be able to maintain breathing if I were to keep it as it was, so we cut it.  Before the neck came the length…it’s shirt time!!

Detatch that skirt!

Detatch that skirt!

I got to chopping and that excess material, which is totally pleated, will make an awesome head scarf in the coming weeks. Will keep you posted.  I did take my seam ripper and began some de-seamming action down the front of my new top.

Clearing some room for the neck!

Clearing some room for the neck!

After that got handled, the shirt was pretty much on point.  Just two small tweaks and we were rocking and rolling!!

Day 165 - After

Day 165 - After

Yep, in honor of LP’s 31st year it was out to the sports bar tonight.  And who doesn’t love bar lobbys with arcade games, especially ones where you can GRAB LIVE LOBSTERS…wha?!?!?

Lobstahs!!

Lobstahs!!

Seriously?  I’ve never seen this before ever, but guess what?  $6 went to the lobstah grabbing claw game because what birthday girl wants, birthday girl gets.

I also could not resist taking a picture in front of my favorite person who I’ve never met before ever who was literally dancing all over the place, music or not, in white jeans.  She had many a drink, making her the life of the party…

Lady in white jeans!

Lady in white jeans to my seven o'clock!

After hanging out on bar stools watching Wacked Out Sports on the Versus network, the night came to the close with a little “Superstition” sung along with in-house live karaoke band, some broads holding guns…

Put your dukes up!

Put your dukes up!

and some Jameson shots on the house…

Jamesons!!!!!

Jamesons!!!!! Thank you George 🙂

I can only hope my bday is just as fantastic.

Day 164. 201 days and $198 left to go.

Today’s number was all about the 80s!!  Purple silk with a slight iridescent hint along with the pads of shoulder…

Day 164 - Before

Day 164 - Before

Today’s look was totally Purple Rain. All I needed was Prince’s tresses and that ruffle shirt and we would have been good to go without any changes.

Prince Show!!

Prince Show!!

However, I can’t play the guitar, so changes here we come.

First, out with these puppies.

Some serious paddage

Some serious paddage

They’re huge!  And just so you can really see the largeness, here you go…

Not even joking they're the size of my hands!!

Not even joking they're the size of my hands!

I mean seriously, right?  Out came the pads and next came the length.  I was definitely not into this as a dress, so I grabbed my scissors to shorten it up.

Trim, trim, trim

Trim, trim, trim

It was going to make a fabulous shirt of sorts now with the extra silk gone.  Also, those horrid sleeves?  No bueno at all.  Instead of cutting and sewing, I opted to roll them up.

Roll with me baby!

Roll with me baby!

After a not so long prep period, my new shirt was ready!  I threw on a white tank underneath and it was just the thing to enjoy a dark chocolate ice blended from The Coffee Bean.  The Bean is my West Coast substitute for Dunkin Donuts and today they were giving ice blendeds away!  Gratis, baby…and this girl digs their courteousness towards everyone’s budgets!

Day 164 - After

Day 164 - After

Unfortch silk is super-duper wrinkletastic and I can’t carry my steamer around all day.

Wrinkled but still fab :)

Wrinkled but still fab 🙂

And to be completely honest, I really don’t have a problem with that 🙂

Day 163. 202 days and $199 left to go.

Anyone else feel me that they need another weekend to recupe from the weekend we just had?  Whew.  Busy weekend=tired Marisa, however the week is just beginning and it’s time to make the donuts.

Today’s dress was a lil’ too big and a lil’ too neck constricting.  On top of the fact that it was made of a not so comfortable polyester either.

Day 163 - Before

Day 163 - Before

Aside from that, the print on the fabric was ridiculous!  The hot, hot pink flowers, bright yellow daisies, and the teal stems were enough for me to fall in love with the dress immediately.

First thing I got to was taking it in.  Instead of tightening up on each side, I brought it in from the back.

Pinning the area to rehem

Pinning the area to rehem

I pinned the excess material from the top of the dress all the way to the bottom and sewed a brand new hem.  Next came the collar.

Cut that collar!!

Cut that collar!!

Because I actually like to breathe, the neckline needed to be loosened up.  I snipped a few inches down the center and pinned each new raw-edged side underneath and sewed them down.

ECU! (Extreme Close-Up!)

ECU! (Extreme Close-Up!)

Love my new V neck that actually gives some breathing room!  Ooh, and the sash you see?  That comes from the excess material I cut after taking it in.  Wanna check out the whole puppy?

Day 163 - After

Day 163 - After

I have to say, it reminds me of this lovely $22.80 number from Forever 21 that would totally be on my to purchase list, if I could actually go shopping at a store.

Forever 21's version

Forever 21's version

The thing I like the most about both pieces is the pleating around the waist.  This extra bit of detail gives both dresses a dainty, vintage flair that I’m loving.

Behind!

Behind!

And you can kind of see the new hem I created when I took the dress in.  No longer a lil’ too big and no longer a lil’ too neck constricting anymore…now it’s all just right!!

Remember that extra weekend I requested earlier?  Where’s Evie and her time stopping fingers from Out of this World when you need her?

Use those fingers! Stop that time!

Use those fingers! Stop that time!

Sidenote…let me just say if I ever come across a genie ready to grant me three wishes, this will definitely be one of them.  Hands down.  Fo realz.

Day 162. 203 days and $200 left to go.

Happy Sunday, but more importantly, Happy Mother’s Day!  On the agenda for me today was a trip to the flea market at the Rose Bowl per my mama’s request.  The day began with iced coffees and a mini (25 minute) road trip to Pasadena for some thrifting/sifting/people watching action!

My choice for the day…

Day 162 - Before

Day 162 - Before

A muumuu of extreme ruffled proportions!  It’s like a country western muumuu going on right now, you think?  I like the ruffles, just not the way they’re looking now, so it’s time for some tweaking!

First, I began by cutting the dress in half as I was going to work this into a top.

Chopping time!

Chopping time!

Now because I am a ruffles fan (of the ones on the dress and the delish chips, preferably of the Baked, Cheddar & Sour Cream variety) I wanted to make a few layers of them on the top.  Before I got to the ruffle layering, I had to take the top in a bit from both sides.

Pinning the areas where I'm going to take it in!

Pinning the areas where some taking in action will be had!

I pinned the area (a couple of inches) and took it in.  Now that it was fitted, it was time to attach some flair.  With the excess fabric, I added a row of ruffles to the front of the top and two rows of ruffles to the back.

I took the fabric, folded it like an accordion (pleated at every inch mark), and pinned it down to the top.

Pinning my pleats!

Pinning my pleats!

Here, you can see the pleats a little closer (from a view of the top edging).

View from the top

After these were placed down into the rows, the piece took a trip to the sewing machine where the layers were stitched down.

Post-stitching!

Post-stitching!

You can see the navy thread of where the stitching went over the newly added ruffles.  I now had one additional row on the front to accompany the pre-existent ruffle collar and two new rows on the back to accompany the back ruffles.

Day 162 - After

Day 162 - After

Bladow ! (Urban dictionary def included mostly for my mom, but in case anyone else may need to check it too 🙂  There was some severe ruffleage going on and I was loving it.

Showing that ruffle action

I mean, I was jumping around all day to make them ruffles move!

And the layered action from the back…

From the back...

From the back...

And we concluded the afternoon with a hit of the deliciousness below.  I mean…

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Yummers!!!

To all the gorgeous mamas out there, including my own gorge one, hope today was beautiful!!
