Day 285. 80 days and $81 left to go.

I LOVE the bold and busy prints and bringing them from a “no way” state to a “sign me up” one!!

Day 284 - Before

Day 284 - Before

I was feeling just like Lucille Ball in this…

Lucille!!

Lucille!!

There were lots o’dots on the fabric itself and I really disliked this blend of dainty, Victorian (in the collar) that went along with the dots.  So, hello adios time, you’ve arrived!!

Starting to take off the collar!

I grabbed my seam ripper and began to unstitch the piece at the collar.  In just a few minutes, one side was completely removed.  I continued and got rid of the entire thing.

I wasn’t loving this as a dress either.  There was just too much going on here so I got my scissors and trimmed right at where the “skirt area” (the little mini skirt that fell at my waist) was.

After going from dress to top I wanted to tweak one last thing.  Now these sleeves as they were, were a bit big.  I thought it would be fun to try this out…instead of cutting and reseaming, I pulled out my “Crafty MacGyver-ness” and made them shorter with a little trick.

I just grabbed a hair tie (a bigger, more elasticked one) and put it in the area between my elbow and hand…

Make sure the hair tie doesn’t cut off your circulation, first and foremost 🙂  I then literally started rolling the piece around until it looked like this…

Roll Bounce!

The rubber band kept it in place which was great – quick and easy!!

My new top was good to go with the addition of a white tank underneath and the pairing of another polka-dotted piece.

A close up of my fave part of the piece – the mixed nature of the dots on the top along with the smaller ones on the fabu belt is what I really loved.

The top turned out super chic and I must say I was getting polka-dotted compliments all night!!

Day 203. 162 days and $160 left to go.

I spent oodles of hours on the phone with AT&T trying to figure out why my Blackberry won’t send or receive texts or make or receive phone calls in some comftastic lounge pants this morning, so I wanted to get dressed up a bit to leave my house…even if the first place I was going was to the AT&T store in person to change out my SIM card.

Day 203 - Before

This dress, which has mini-polka dots all over, is a bit biggish on me and not very flattering.  To make it work in these warmish temps there are just three easy things I’m going to do.

First, I cut off about five inches at the bottom of the dress to both shorten and to use as a sash around my waist!

That's my soon-to-be sash!

Second, I took in about three inches on both sides of the dress to tighten it up just a scosh.

Third, I rolled up the sleeves a bit above my elbow – was going to cut them off but then opted to leave them long in case it got chillier in the day.  (It did, so I’m very glad I left the length.)

With the addition of my makeshift sash tied into a pretty lil’ bow, I had a brand new dress…

Just the thing to wear to the AT&T store to try to get a phone fixed yet deal with four separate employees trying to sell me cable instead.  No joke.

I left with a new SIM card, which they said it would do the trick, and by the time I returned home, I was dealing with the same problem again.  At least I felt pretty in my outfit…

Day 180. 185 days and $182 left to go.

Today I went with dots…

Day 180 - Before

Day 180 - Before

…well a  lot of dots, actually.  Not until I got this home did I really think how similar I looked to the below as I was taking my before pic.

Minnie!

Minnie!

Yep, this dress screamed Minnie Mouse and I wanted to get as far away from that picture as possible.  Once I saw the connection, I couldn’t get it out of my mind.

My first step was shortening up the dress.

Getting rid of the length

I cut off eight inches of length that turned the dress into a top in seconds.  I next brought the top in a smidge just to make it a bit more fitted.

The most important tweak were these…

Shoulder Pads!!!!

Shoulder Pads!!!!

The shoulder pads HAD to be removed.  The sleeves were already ruched, so there was no extra need to emphasize the pouffiness of them.

And the outcome…

Perfectly, non-Disney seeming top to go on top of my skinny jeans, rope belt and sandals.

An eve with the ladies that began in one spot…

Happy Hour!!

…and brought us to another where a crazy tower of Stella Artois made an appearance.

Tower O'Beer!

Tower O'Beer!

That’s kinda what you do when the big holiday weekend is within arms reach, right?  Memorial Day is almost here, I can just taste it!  That and well, the Stella too.

Day 55. 310 days and $306 left to go.

So, even though the rains were still coming down, I made a game time decision to nix the leggings (they’ll be making an appearance again tomorrow friends as I’m LAX bound in the am) and go with a fun, frilly shirt that I literally almost made out with when I locked eyes.  It was that fah-bulous and was just a buck.  Checky here…

Day 55 - Before

Day 55 - Before

The itsy-bitsy black polka dots on the white crêpe shirt were so delicious that I snagged the blouse without even testing the fit.  I’m a ruffle girl too, so those were the icing on this scrumptious cupcake.  The one issue was that the shirt was severely see through – even with a nude bra underneath (which is the best trick ever – never use white under white!!) you could still see through.  I considered using dye, but I loved the black and white combo, so I pulled my trusty little criss-cross slip top that I made in Day 22 and put it on underneath.  I opened a few of the buttons to really accentuate the ruffs and had my ensemble for the day…

My outfit was rain proof, but the hair…that’s a whole other sitch.  Happy weekend and stay dry my dears! xx M
