Day 284. 81 days and $82 left to go.

Today’s dress was going to come from a fabulously fabricked muumuu…well hello muumuu, there you are!!

Day 284 - Before

Day 284 - Before

I LURVED the fabric of this puppy, I mean LURVED!!  A blend of leopard and florals all together in one?!  Sign this sista up!!  Wasn’t working as a dress, so it’s going to get a little redo…

I got rid of the length…

Trimmy, trimmy!!

Trimmy, trimmy!!

…sewed a new hem…

New Hem!!

New Hem!!

…tweaked the neckline…

Fold under!!

Fold under!

…and was ready to rock it!!

Day 284 - After

Day 284 - After

Three easy steps, one easy top!!  Slightly reminiscent of this fabu Stella McCartney ditty…

Stella!! Stella!!

Stella!! Stella!!

It would have been one short, short piece if I added some tights underneath, however the jeans were working just fine.  We’re experiencing a little overcast and cloudy without a chance of meatballs weather right now so the denim was a welcome cover up to the legs.

I even ordered a warm, caffeinated bevvie at the end of my dinner.

Post dinner café au lait!

Post dinner café au lait!

Totally killed two birds with one stone – A, I warmed up!  Woo hoo!  B, I prepared myself with some caffeine as it was going to be a long evening of blogging ahead of me…

Day 281. 84 days and $85 left to go.

Los Angeles is in the middle of some serious warmth this weekend, probably to make up for the lack of it this past June, July and August.  If Labor Day is all about saying goodbye to summer, this is the best way to do it.  Gimme some rays. Gimme some sun.  Loving this hot. Hot. Heat!!

Day 281 - Before

Day 281 - Before

This muumuu was just the piece that was going to get me feeling cool while still channeling the summer at an afternoon BBQ.

Clearly we’re not going to attend looking as is, so let’s get to fixing it!

Can’t do sleeves, so we’re going to take them off!!

Early stages of total detachment!

Early stages of total detachment!

Out came the seam ripper and stitches were getting undone!  Off with the sleeves!!

One almost down, one to go!!

One almost down, one to go!!

I wanted to go short, so I trimmed off a good foot of material from the bottom of the muumuu.

Length trim!

Length trim!

Now we’re really going places!!  My new dress was sleeveless and shorter and getting closer to a wearable end point!!

Sleeveless!!!

Sleeveless!!!

I got out my sewing machine to create new seams around the arm holes which now had no sleeves attached.

Fixing Sleeves!!

Fixing Sleeves!!

I trimmed an extra bit of fabric (about two inches from the bottom)…

One last trim!

One last trim!

…which I’m going to be tying around the back of the dress.

I cut the material so there was two ends, gathered the material, and tied a bow in the back.

Bow time!!

Bow time!!

My dress was now complete for the day!!

Day 281 - After

Day 281 - After

It was just the thing to wear on this warm and lovely Sunday afternoon at the S’s.

From the back!!

From the back!!

The back of the dress was my favorite part and even as it got later on into the evening and began to cool down, I tried my best to go without my cardigan cover up.  Ooh, the price we pay (and warmth we feel) for fashion 🙂

Master of the grill RS was wheeling and dealing an assortment of divine and delicious meats throughout the day.

RS and his grill!!

RS and his grill!!

I mean, get a load of this pork that had been simmering for over 12 hours.

Pork!!!

Pork!!!

I’ve never tasted a pulled pork sandwich that was this amazing outside of Charlotte, NC.

We ate. We sat. We cleaned…

Clean Up Time...

Clean Up Time...

We couldn’t hit the dessert table just quite yet, so we did a little bottle gathering and dishwasher filling to work up an appetite.

After a little tidying up, we pulled out the desserts to find that the apple pie had a visitor already.  A small finger scoop of this delish treat was what we found missing and everyone was mum about who did it.  In a group of 20 people, everyone had poker faces.

Pie Bandit!!

Pie Bandit!!

My guess is Colonel Mustard with the lead pipe in the kitchen.

Day 276. 89 days and $90 left to go.

Today was a bold and bright one!  I’m just warning you as this piece is literally fluorescent orange.  No joke. Fluorescent. Orange.  Ooh, and PS…it’s a muumuu too!!

Day 276 - Before

Day 276 - Before

Slightly blinding but exactly the wakeup call…this and my cup of Folgers 🙂

Holy Sleeves!

Holy Sleeves!

I grabbed my seam rippers and started undoing the seams right around the sleeves…

Clip the pits!

Clip the pits!

…until I got them completely off!!

No Mo!!

No Mo!!

I didn’t cut the length of the dress but just grabbed a braided belt, put it around my waist, ungathered it a bunch and had a new dress for my day!!

Day 276 - After

Day 276 - After

Went to grab a little Mexican with some friends and literally enjoyed a carne asada, chicken, and pulled pork trio for $3!!

Taco Tuesday!!

Taco Tuesday!!

Some tacos, margaritas, and fun company equals the best way to spend a pre-holiday weekend Tuesday night.  Now, this gal loves her some Taco Bell, however tonight’s dinner was cheaper than fast food!!

Margie time!!

Margie time!!

I mean, a mid-week margie?  Sign me up…Mexican food is the key to my heart.

Day 258. 107 days and $108 left to go.

My Friday dress you may be asking?? Today’s began by looking a little like this!

Day 258 - Before

Day 258 - Before

It’s a big one!  I love the sleeves and the V neck with the two little dainty buttons on it.  It’s a bold color and these color blues are my favorite!  Dress not my favorite yet mostly because of thees scattered around…

One of a handful!

One of a handful!

There were lots of these puppies!  Luckily many of them fell in the mid to bottom section of the dress where I could just cut a bunch off and say goodbye!!

Get rid of it!

Get rid of it!

Even though the body was still large, I thought this dress worked as a more flowy one, so no bringing in at all.  Holes are gone and brand new dress is ready for the weekend!

Day 258 - After

Day 258 - After

I got a little present from JS from the newly opened, NY transplanted, Magnolia Bakery.

Woo hoo!

Woo hoo!

When I was handed the bag, I almost didn’t let her go!!  She knows the key to my heart!

Matching Bluebirds!

Matching Blue Birds!

“But first my hunger pains are stickin’ like duct tape.

Let’s hit up Magnolia and mack on some cupcakes.

No doubt that bakery’s got all da bomb frostins.

I love those cupcakes like McAdams loves Gosling.”

Yummmmm

The Chronic (what?) Cles of Narnia!

Yeah, these cupcakes were definitely  “crazy delicious.”  Nothing like nibbling at 1am, right?

TGIF!  Happy weekend friends:)

*The giveaway I mentioned yesterday will be revealed tomorrow, along with all winners and prize info.  Just a little tease, it’s themed around this…

EPL!!

Day 241. 124 days and $123 left to go.

This is a Hawaiian muumuu of epic proportions.

Day 241 - Before

Day 241 - Before

Even my cousin TP thinks it’s a bit ridiculous.  He just had to put it on to really get a feel.

Work it. Strut it. Do it.

Work it. Strut it. Do it.

There was a lot of fabric going on here and I had to condense the extra.  I took off the length first as I wanted something light and cute this summery day.

Trimming the length!

Trimming the length!

I pinned under the raw edges and prepped the bottom of the skirt for  a new hem.

Hem time!

Hem time!

While the pins were out, I also began my measurements of where to take this in on the sides.

Bring it on, I mean in!

Bring it on, I mean in!

…and after the pins went in the fabric, the dress got a new life and got all stitched up.

Almost wear time!

Almost wear time!

My dress was perfect for a little leisurely walk by Los Angeles Pond, aka, the faux fountain, water spitting lake at The Grove, Los Angeles’ shopping mecca that happens to be just a few blocks from my casa.

Day 241 - After

Day 241 - After

The dress totally made me feel like I was on vacation and even though I tried closing my eyes really hard and clicking my wedges together, I did not get whisked away to Hawaii.  I did get whisked to the movie theater for an evening screening of Salt.

And then I fist pumped in celebration…

Steppin' Up

…of the poster next to my theater which may or may not have also included some shoulder leans as I danced to the music in my head.

Day 223. 142 days and $141 left to go.

I don’t know about you, but closing out the work week in something comfortable (muumuu), something cozy (muumuu) and something cute (muumuu) was just the speed for today!  When I found this muumuu, I was immediately taken by the fabric.  Not only is it purple (!!) but it’s got these great little half moon-ish shapes on the fabric…

Day 223 - Before

Day 223 - Before

…that reminded me of a reniform leaf!!

Foliage!!!

Foliage!!!

Yep, those leaves remind me of a being a little kid, because I swear I used one of them to do a tracing/shading art project 🙂 I guess the art project begins again…

First, I’m going short!!

Trim!

Trim!

l really, really disliked the inch and a half collar on the piece, so I just took the whole thing off!

No more mock neck!

No more mock neck!

I also wanted to open up the neck.  It’s summer (even though it’s still overcast here…) and I want to show a little bit of skin.  Yep, I’m literally going to be showing a very little patch of skin.  I trimmed a slit down the center of the neck and pinned it down.

V!!

V!!

l got out my sewing machine and stitched the new neckline, took up the sleeves (made them hit my elbows), and took in the dress about an inch on each side.  Last step was trimming a strip of fabric from the excess to use as a little belt.

Art project completed!!!

Day 223 - After

PS, it kind of reminds me of this awesome and $138 dress by Patterson J. Kinkaid at Shopbop.

Lookalike!

Because of my good grade, my reward was the following…

Ahhh....

Ahhh....

I got to celebrate with the fam over margies and Baja Fresh – always love a low-key Friday night hang sesh.  The dress is under my black wrap, because as the night proceeded and we didn’t move from the backyard, I got chilly as the temps dipped low.  Looking forward to a sunny and warm next few days…fingers crossed!

TGIF!  Happy weekend friends :)

Day 199. 166 days and $164 left to go.

So, I’m totally on a floral kick this week.  From yesterday’s muumuu to today’s, well muumuu again, everything’s coming up roses…or daisies actually.  Loved the blue and pink hues on today’s piece.

Day 199 - Before

Day 199 - Before

It was a bit too wide and the pockets were definitely not in a position to actually rest my hands in – they were literally on the side seams of the dress and I looked like a scarecrow 🙂

I didn’t like the high neck, so I got my scissors out and began cutting.  I wanted to make it more of a scoop neck, so I made slits all around the neck from the edge to the seam… (each slit was about two inches)

Collar Time

Collar Time

…and then pinned them under and sewed them under.  I needed to take the dress in a bit and because the pockets were not in a stellar position, I just took them off.  Out came the seam ripper and detached the pockets.

Later pockets

Later pockets

I turned the dress inside out and took it in about three inches on each side – I began sewing at the sleeves all the way down to the bottom of the dress.  Those few tweaks and the addition of my thick brown belt gave me just the thing to wear to the forest.

Day 199 - After

Day 199 - After

Well no, I’m not actually in the forest, but that was the direction I was given by my director/photo taker/winner of a Lakers bet I made tonight.  I said the Lakers would definitely go over 100 points, but I guessed wrong – 89 was the final score – and I have to pay in tacos.

My favorite stoop!!

My favorite stoop!!

The deep neck went out to my shoulders which I loved.  I could totally rock it Jennifer Beals à la Flashdance style…

What a Feeling!

What a Feeling!

…but I’m not really in a dancing mood tonight.  I will definitely bring it back when I’ve got that bucket of water and a sweatband ready to go.  I was, however, in the mood for the below.

Yoggie!!

Yoggie!!

I mean if it weren’t for the open spot literally right outside the Yogurtland location I wouldn’t have stopped.  OK, maybe I would have, but I feel like that spot was just waiting for me to take it to enjoy the deliciousness of a coffee/cookies & cream/Dutch chocolate trifecta with Oreo’s, mini Reese’s Pieces, some raspberries (random I know, but antioxidants people!!), and rainbow sprinkles.

Day 198. 167 days and $165 left to go.

Tis another muumuu in the house!!!  What, what?!  This one has a fabu stripe down the center too…

Day 198 - Before

Day 198 - Before

I’m going to keep it a dress, but I’ve got a little work to do!

I grabbed my scissors and cut a two inch strip off of the bottom which I shall be wrapping around my waist in just a few 🙂

Using the bottom strip of fabric as a sash!

Using the bottom strip of fabric as a sash!

I loved that the cuffs were big, but I didn’t like that the whole arm was huge.  I took the sleeves in a bit and kept the length at my wrist, but tightened it up as it got closer to my body.

Stitch that sleeve!

Stitch that sleeve!

After the sleeves were taken in, I took in the body of the dress as well.

New seams!!

New seams!!

My next to last step was fixing the collar.  There was a zipper down the middle of the dress and I didn’t have any intention of actually using it, so I unzipped it to where I wanted my neckline to be and sewed it in place.

Unzippy!

Unzippy!

Ooh, and that sash…

Tie it on!

Tie it on!

Tossed it around my waist and was out the door.

Day 198 - After

Day 198 - After

So, I gots my summery dress on for an 80 degree Monday!!  I have to say, it was such a comfy piece to wear all day.  House dress turned out and about dress = feels like going about my day in pajamas, and I LOVE pajamas.

ECU!! (Extreme Close Up!)

ECU!! (Extreme Close Up!)

After some catch up time with my MK, I not so secretly went home to do some Bachelorette action.  I was hand sewing on the couch as I was watching this evening’s ep.  I won’t give any spoilers in case any of you who do watch still have it on your TiVo, but all that singing…I mean.

Kasey with a K

Kasey with a K

The worst part was that he thought he was awesome!!  Unfortch Kasey, you’re a bit tone deaf…and that’s no way to woo a lady!

Day 154. 211 days and $208 left to go.

Knowing that on this evening’s agenda was a Dodger game, I was in search for something blue that I could don to cheer on the home team.  In my search, I came across this puppy which was going to be perfecto.

Day 154 - Before

Day 154 - Before

A blue muumuu with some fabulous red, purple and blue striping.  Totally aces.  Being it was a night game, I wasn’t really into wearing a dress just because even though Los Angeles is all warm and lovely during the day, it gets quite chilly as the sun goes down.  It was going to be a jeans night, so out came the scissors.

Excess Strip!

Excess Strip O'Fab

I trimmed off about six inches from the bottom of the dress, so that meant goodbye stripe trio.  I really did like those stripes, however I’ll try to get them to make another appearance at a later date.  Maybe as a sash around something polka-dotted or vertically striped?  The options are endless, so I’ll just keep you posted.  That’s it for this one.  Quick snip and we were off to downtown.

Take me out to the ballgame!

Take me out to the ballgame!

It started off at dusk so the sunglasses were most definitely still on until we hit the third inning.  Once we got on the board, the shades came off and the posing began.

Day 154 - After

Day 154 - After

Aside from some Nightmare on Elm Street promos and a Jeopardy sponsored “Daily Double” screen (and theme song!) that came on after each double made in the game, this was the other awesome part…

Don't Stop Believin!

Don't Stop Believin!

This dude!  Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” plays each game right as the bottom of the 8th inning begins and of course the cameramen find the most dance-y/charismatic/crazy fans singing along with the song to shoot.  This guy ruled and they didn’t even film anyone else aside from him.  He was a total blend of…

Judah Friedlander…

one of the best parts about 30 Rock!

and it was awesome!!  Then post-winning, I proceeded with my comic hijinks and did the below.

Froyo dish turned new accessory

Froyo dish turned new accessory

Clearly not as funny or cool as the Journey dude, but I was amused 🙂

Day 120. 245 days and $241 left to go.

The muumuu returns!!  It’s been a little while since we had a muumuu appearance and I thought it was about time.  March is almost over and there’s got to be at least one muumuu this month.  March Madness & Muumuu was the theme of this Sunday, but perhaps a themed “Muumuu May” will be just around the corner…  I wanted a little dress for today and I was going to crank one out from the below.

Day 120 - Before

Day 120 - Before

Again with the one pocket, this green floral muumuu was bold, bright, and botanical garden-y.  I have to say that I liked the neckline and all I was worried about was the wretched length.  I’m all about hanging out and lounging in this, but not when it hits me at my ankles.  So, out came the scissors…

Hike that Skirt!

Hike that Skirt!

I ended up taking about half of the length off – I thought it was going to hit me a little above my knees, but it ended up being a more mid-thigh length.  I had no issues with that, however I did hear, “that’s a bit short, don’t you think” from the peanut gallery 🙂  I think that went away as I began to help out in the garden.

Day 120 - After

Day 120 - After

It was a great Sunday sundress to enjoy the rays along with one of McDonald’s Vanilla iced coffees, Duke beating Baylor, and a little more spring cleaning which included finding this puppy…

Looks like a pickle, feels like a pickle

Looks like a pickle, feels like a pickle

Um, it’s nothing other than a pickle pen!!

Pickle Pen!!

Pickle Pen!!

Hello working pen from 1992 that was scored in a Wendy’s kids meal by the broham.  I mean it couldn’t be more random and awesome all in one.  Plus it matches.  Drum sticks were the accessory yesterday and the pickle pen wins today.  The bangles are back tomorrow, promise 🙂
