Day 174. 191 days and $188 left to go.

LOST WEEK!!

LOST WEEK!!

It’s Day Four of LOST Week and just two more to go.  It’s getting close!!!

Before we get down to business, I’m sure you want to see what Sawyer is donning today…

It was sunny, he went with some lightly colored stripes.  I get it – I went with pastels too.

Today we begin here…

For you Losties, you know exactly who I’m channeling today.

Jack (Matthew Fox) doctoring away

Jack Shepherd!! (Matthew Fox)

For you non-Losties, you may be thinking more along these lines.

Grey as in Meredith

Grey as in Meredith

It’s totally cool – both TV doctors are found on ABC…but I must say, Jack Shepherd has been super awesome lately.  Anyone in cahoots with me?  Also, anyone catch the stamp above the pocket?

Hmmm, are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Resembles the below much???

My thoughts exactly 🙂

I wanted to make the top look less like scrubs, so I began by cutting off the sleeves.

Sleeve trimming!

After cutting the sleeves off, I trimmed off about another inch to create new arm holes.

Stitching up those raw edges around my new armhole!

I also wanted the top to form more of a tank look, so I made it a bit more fitted.

Love my Jack inspired piece.  I really feel doctory, just like Shepherd – the only difference is, is that the doctor I play on TV would totally be an ER pediatrician just like my favorite TV doctor ever.

I’ll leave the spinal expertise to Shep.  Operating on Linus and John Locke?  No thanks. Too much pressure.

Day 172. 193 days and $190 left to go.

LOST WEEK!!

LOST WEEK!!

It’s Day Two of LOST Week and just four more to go.   Gettin’ closer to the end friends!

Like I said yesterday, Sawyer will be making daily appearances in new outfits just like me…

Sawyer in a Denim Shirt

…and today is rocking the blue in a pair of distressed, more like overly-distressed, jeans.  I’ll let him off the hook just because maybe those were the only pair of jeans he could find in all of the beach debris after Oceanic Flight 815 crashed into the sand?

Day 172 - Before

Day 172 - Before

This had elements (like very, very, very slim elements) that made me want to do a little recreation of the new dress that Kate Austen got in “The Glass Ballerina” episode back in the third season.

Kate's (Evangeline Lilly) Brand New Dress!

Kate's (Evangeline Lilly) Brand New Dress!

She looks light and dainty and it was the really flowy/crinkled skirt part of my piece that got me thinking.  It looks nothing like what Kate’s does right this sec, but just wait.  Like “the others”… guess what else is coming?  Yep, new dress.

My first plan of attack – the sleeves.  I trimmed them both off by cutting diagonally from the waist all the way up to the neck.

Later sleeve :)

Later sleeve 🙂

Next plan of attack was cutting a large amount of the width off (goodbye excess crinkled material from the skirt) and stitching up the new sides of the skirt.  I also closed up the body of the dress and stitched the raw edging around my sleeveless arm holes.

Sewing down raw edges around the arms

I cut down the center of the dress, pinned each new edge down, and sewed it into place to make a V shape.

Gimme a V!

It was all beginning to fall into place.  I was left with the below…

Extra, extra!!

Extra, extra!!

…which will go into my growing piles slash bags of excess fabric.  Before the dress was completely finished, I took some black ribbon and tied little bows on each newly made strap and threw my ropelike belt (Goodwill find a few years back) around my waist.  Thoughts now??

I mean, the colors are different but I’m feeling light, dainty, and flowy just like Kate!

Maybe not as dainty here, per the manual labor...

On the agenda today was some visiting with my new little friend, Lady M.

See, I just held Lady M and didn’t leave my chair unlike Kate, who took Claire’s baby Aaron from the island and lied to the world claiming he was hers.

I know, I know, it was all in his best interest, but I don’t plan on taking Lady M anywhere without the permission of her parents 🙂

If I were still stuck on that island, I'd definitely be doing this. Everyday. I'd be bald by now.

Two days down.  And then there were four…

Day 136. 229 days and $226 left to go.

Happy Tuesday!!  Not only am I excited for LOST this evening (I know all you Losties feel me…how ’bout that Desmond?) as well as the return of Glee (lots having to do with Idina Menzel, Patrick Harris comma Neil, Kristin Chenoweth, & the songs of Madonna making appearances), but it’s a cooking club night with the girlinas. Asian fare is on the menu, so I kind of thought this piece could work.

There is red piping along the cap sleeves as well as along the mild V-neck collar which reminded me of a trip I took down to Chinatown months back scoping out some gorge silk dresses.  (PS, my home page blog pic is from said Chinatown trip, thanks to JW, my personal Annie Lebovitz just without all the getting suing action).  So I figured this would be the perfect outfit for this evening.

Day 136 - Before

Day 136 - Before

This dress was a little off – weird length, definitely see through (hence the jeans under this puppy) and the arms were a bit too big for me.  Just for the sheer (PUN!) fact that I don’t think I own undergarments that wouldn’t be seen beneath this, I opted to craft this into a top.  Flashing on the radar today?  Negative, friends.

I cut off the bottom portion of the dress (about a foot) and sewed a brand new hem around the bottom of my new top.  I used maroon thread, so check out the close up below…

New Hem!

…after I hemmed the bottom of my top, I took in the dress on each side a few inches to make it a little more fitted.

I loved that it still fell rather loosely as we had a meal of champions on the horizon.

Dumplings, chow mein, orange chicken, oh my!

I mean a spread of homemade dumplings, almond cookies, noodles, chx, some wasabi mashed potatoes and pickled cucumbers was spot on while we caught up and chatted about being featured on magazine covers (check out May’s House Beautiful with MW’s ridiculously amazing design skills on the cover!!) and a certain “Posh encounter with a type of spice.”

Almond cookie in one hand, sake in the other?  Yeah, just a Tuesday night in my books 🙂

Day 66. 299 days and $295 left to go.

Today was a very special day.  Aside from LOST finally coming back (how I’ve missed you Sawyer…oh, Sayid, you too) I had a fun date with Pee-wee Herman (and my dad) at his live show in downtown LA.  I’ll say it, I’ve been a fan since I was a lil’ lass and couldn’t wait to check it out (and see what the secret word was).  It called for an ensemble of the dandiest proportions and I believe this piece did just the trick.

Day 66 - Before

Day 66 - Before

But before hitting the playhouse there were some necessary adjustments that had to get made. First, we said later to the length – it was too long and needed to be shortened just a tad.  A little snippy, snippy of the skirt and a little rehemmy, rehemmy of the bottom edge and we were almost ready to roll!  Next, there was some unbuttoning that had to occur – three of them to be exact and then those long sashes needed to be tied together in a big, fabulous bow (the bigger and poofier, the better). We’re almost there…an ivory vest was thrown on, on top of the dress (mine was a cotton Triple Five Soul one from a few years ago), red boots were added along with a vintage red apple pin & leather bangles from my collection of treasured family pieces.  Last but not least, those sleeves had to get rolled up.  After a few hot seconds, this piece was show ready.  I rather loved the outcome…

Day 66 - After

I know, I know…if I love this outfit so much, I should marry it, right?  I’d say yes if my year was coming to an end, however I’ve still got 299 days to go.  I have a lot more fun (scream real loud for the secret word!!!) to look forward to!  We’ll dance to Tequila before the year is up.  You can count on that!!
