Day 260. 105 days and $106 left to go.

Los Angeles is beginning to feel the heat!!  There’s a heat wave on the prowl, so today I took full advantage and went with the ultimate summer sundress for spending the day outside and the evening indoors with the girls.

Day 259 - Before

Day 259 - Before

I am LOVING the primary colors on this bad boy.  Yellow, orange, purple, and green, oh my!!  This palette screamed “weekend ensemble” in a very high-pitched voice, so I had to purchase from the big pile of duds just so it would simmer down.

It was too long and a bit too large on top, so I had a few little mends to make.  First thing to focus on was the length, so I cut the dress off just below the knees!

Cut time!

Cut time!

Now that we’re getting shorter, I had to make it tighter as well.  I took in an inch on each side of the top to make it a little more fitted in my chestal area.  Out came the machine…

Did I say how obsessed I am with this fabric?

Did I say how obsessed I am with this fabric?

…and a brand new hem was made!  The dress now fit perf in the boob area!  Just to give it a little more flair, I cinched the area up top and pinned it together with a safety pin.  My trademarked “pinch and cinch” move!!

Pinch and Cinch!!

Pinch and Cinch!!

Kinda like Reese Witherspoon’s “snap and bend” from Legally Blonde? N’est-ce pas?

Bend and Snap!

Bend and Snap!

My sundress escorted me to a little McDonald’s run this morning for one of their iced coffees (totally treat!), a trip to the pile sale for some $1 finds, and then to the movies for some Eat Pray Love-ing.

Day 259 - After

We planned our girls movie day at the Grove…

Afternoon with the gals!

…and invited the moms along as well.  Love taking up half a row in the theater!!

Movie with the Moms!!

Movie with the Moms!!

Not sure who saw it or not, but I must say, after I left I desperately wanted three things:

1 – A big bowl of pasta.

Carbs!!

Carbs!!

2 – A trip to Bali.

I want to go to there!!

I want to go to there!!

3 – A makeout sesh with Javier.

Oh Javier!!

Oh Javier!!

I’ve been getting some awesome EPL inspiration emails…may as well start the week off right with some chocolate thanks to my gal Cheryl!!

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (Microwave Safe)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well.  Add the egg and mix thoroughly before pouring in the milk and oil in.  Keep mixing.  Add the optional chocolate chips next (who makes that an option!) and vanilla extract, and mix again…

Mmm, cake batter!

Mmm, cake batter!

Put your mug in the micro wave and cook for three minutes at 1000 watts.  The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed!  Allow it to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

This is too easy!!

This is too easy!!

EAT ! (this can serve two if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

Optional Sharing Method!

OSM!! (Optional Sharing Method!)

Why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because we are all only 5 minutes away from warm, gooey, delicious chocolate cake any time, night or day.

Ooh Cheryl, you may hold the key to my heart right here!!  Thanks for sharing!!

Keep the notes of inspiration coming my way! Will continue posting all week 🙂

Day 179. 186 days and $183 left to go.

Happy Humpday!!  This one happens to be of my favorites because it falls in a week holding a three-day weekend!! Woo hoo!  Just another step closer to Memorial Day which is the unofficial/official kickoff to the summer, right?  This gal couldn’t be happier.  Beach, here I come!!

Day 179 - Before

Day 179 - Before

This dress was Frumpy McFrumperstein when I came across it.  I loved the black/pink blend, along with the pleated skirt but there was just no shape.  My first step was taking in the top.  I pinned down the areas that I was going to stitch over…

Pins!!

Pins!!

…and then did the same with the waist and skirt.  I plugged in my sewing machine and got to making some new hems!  I then took the extra fabric that I cut off and created a little belt to wear around my waist.

Belt Me!!

Belt Me!!

I cut a rectangle in the pleated fabric and then attached two strips of the smoother fabric from the top of the dress on each side as the ties.  Quick, makeshift belt action?  Why yes.  And now my dress is complete.

And, I was totally reminded of two lovely dresses I came across at Urban Outfitters…

This one has a super similar floral pattern and color scheme ($48 @ Urban)

& this one has the overall shape. ($78 @ Urban)

I have to say, the neck and slight cap-ness of the sleeves on this one are super similar.  See…

I would have hands down, tried both of these on during one of my Urban stops. Urban happens to be three short blocks away and conveniently enough it’s located across the street from “my” Starbucks.  Tend to frequent the spot often for inspiration and iced coffees 🙂  Luckily today, I can skate away feeling that my version came pretty close to these puppies and I only spent un dólar!!

Weekend is within arm’s reach.  I can already smell the bbq’s.

Day 178. 187 days and $184 left to go.

The muumuu is back!!  I know you were all waiting for its’ return 🙂  A little comfy muumuu action, some bball, and Glee are the only things on my agenda.  Didn’t realize how much off sched I was from staying up way past my bedtime Losting on Sunday night.  I’m still catching up on veg/sleep/naps from the “I can count on my one hand how much I slept before my alarm went off and it’s not higher than three” evening.  Yesterday I was a zombie with caffeine overload, so this was the perfect outfit to lay low and recover.  I had a date with my couch tonight and literally nothing sounded better.

Day 178 - Before

Day 178 - Before

So red was on the clearly on the mind today as those Vocal Adrenaline-ers on GLEE were all about it too.

Vocal Adrenaline!!

Vocal Adrenaline!!

Loved the Gaga inspiration and that they copied her red chantilly lace get up from the MTV Video Music Awards.

Gagalicious!

Gagalicious!

No lace for me today, but the red in full force.  It’s more like Ga. Ga. Muu. La. La. Ga. Ga. Muu. La. La. 🙂

The length was the first part to go…

Cutting the length off

Trimmed off about seven inches of length and gave the p-p-p-puppy, p-p-puppy a new hem.

Pinned edges waiting to be sewn

Now there was already a lovely hole found on the seam underneath the arms, so I just decided to go with it.  Off with the sleeves!!

That hole came with the dress :)

That hole came with the dress 🙂

After they were gone, I pinned down all the new raw edges and sewed them in place.

Detatch time!

Detach time!

This one today got turned into a chic shoulderless number that perhaps Lady Gaga would have been proud of.

She’d however demand that I cover my head in an iceberg,

No global warming on Gaga's head!

some sort of metallic orb,

The ultimate head gear!

or a silver lobster.
