Day 168. 197 days and $194 left to go.

It’s been a slightly hectic weekend so far, so I wanted to pick something more calming to wear today.  Opted to go against the 60s mod über bright colored dress (which I will absolutely use very soon) and go with a light palette of blues along with some flowers.

It reminded me of Monet’s Iris and his lovely color schemes…

Today’s piece was reminiscent, just without the lily pads.

The button clasp had come undone, so my first job on this puppy was to reattach it.  I took a needle and some thread and began to stitch the end of the clasp back into the side seam to hide my handiwork.

My next adjustment was taking the dress in – I brought it in on both sides from the arms down to the bottom of the dress about two inches.  It made it more fitted, but without taking away the flowyness.

To completely finish the piece, I used some of my excess “Purple Rain silk” from Day 164, and cut a strip from the leftover.

A sash to match perfectly with the purples in the dress was on the horizon.  The end product?

A lovely, more fitted and relaxed dress for my Saturday 🙂  As I was clearly in art mode and unfortunately didn’t make it to the LACMA today (even though I was driving my face off all around its’ Mid-City LA vicinity) I went to BeFunky.com for a little artistic assistance.

Cartoon Marisa!

Kind of obsessed with my cartoonized me 🙂  I reminds me of the last time I went the cartoon route when I “Simpsonized” myself a few years back when the movie was coming out.

I mean, my lips only reach that shade of red after a few glasses of vino and my hair…it’s just so thick!!  Those Simpsons animators really know how to make a girl happy.

Day 139. 226 days and $223 left to go.

Now today’s piece wasn’t the original plan for the day – I had another dress (denim/white gauze-y material/studs – I know…ridiculous) that I was planning to go with however, as my tweaking began, it took a turn and headed down a totally different road.  It’s going to work way better for the summer as it went from long-sleeved to strapless to spaghetti strapped in a few seconds flat.  It’s warm out, but it ain’t that warm out.  Instead, I went with the florals…

Now this floral puppy actually came with its’ matching belt – shocker, I know!!  It’s one of the few vintage pieces I’ve found that actually had the belt attached.  Unfortch, I wasn’t going to be using it today.  Plus, I don’t think anybody would even be able to tell if it were on me or not because of how matchy, matchy it was.  Speaking of matchy, matchy…

Plagued by matching shoulder pads!

Plagued by matching shoulder pads!

The shoulder pads were also covered in the floral print!  Now I’m digging the print, but there is a lot of it, so my first step was taking the top from high neck to a little bit of a V.  Just a little peek of skin to break up the print a smidge.  I cut a straight line about four inches down the front of the dress and pinned the sides under to create the V.

Here comes a new neck!

After pinning, I jumped to the sleeves and did a bit of trimming.  As the original length of the sleeves hit my elbows, I decided to shorten them.

Cut Sleeves!

Cut Sleeves!

Post-trimming, I sewed down the raw edges of the sleeves and the neckline.  Now, it’s kind of hard to see, but there is a little ‘skirt’ around the waist that lays over the dress.  I thought about taking it off, as it has a slight figure skater/ballet dancer feel, but held onto the flair and just shortened the bottom of the skirt.

Paired with my boots, I was ready for happy hour!

A little post-work cocktailing was had to ring in the weekend!  We hit up Govind Armstrong’s 8oz Burger Bar for a little drinky…

…and luckily for me it’s literally around the corner from my casa.  Walking home after a little HH action.  Priceless.  So, I ordered another…

TGIF!  Happy weekend friends 🙂

Day 120. 245 days and $241 left to go.

The muumuu returns!!  It’s been a little while since we had a muumuu appearance and I thought it was about time.  March is almost over and there’s got to be at least one muumuu this month.  March Madness & Muumuu was the theme of this Sunday, but perhaps a themed “Muumuu May” will be just around the corner…  I wanted a little dress for today and I was going to crank one out from the below.

Day 120 - Before

Again with the one pocket, this green floral muumuu was bold, bright, and botanical garden-y.  I have to say that I liked the neckline and all I was worried about was the wretched length.  I’m all about hanging out and lounging in this, but not when it hits me at my ankles.  So, out came the scissors…

Hike that Skirt!

Hike that Skirt!

I ended up taking about half of the length off – I thought it was going to hit me a little above my knees, but it ended up being a more mid-thigh length.  I had no issues with that, however I did hear, “that’s a bit short, don’t you think” from the peanut gallery 🙂  I think that went away as I began to help out in the garden.

It was a great Sunday sundress to enjoy the rays along with one of McDonald’s Vanilla iced coffees, Duke beating Baylor, and a little more spring cleaning which included finding this puppy…

Um, it’s nothing other than a pickle pen!!

Pickle Pen!!

Pickle Pen!!

Hello working pen from 1992 that was scored in a Wendy’s kids meal by the broham.  I mean it couldn’t be more random and awesome all in one.  Plus it matches.  Drum sticks were the accessory yesterday and the pickle pen wins today.  The bangles are back tomorrow, promise 🙂
